Spring is here! I know it’s tempting but hold off on getting those hanging baskets at the grocery store just a short while longer.
I know, I know. We’ve just had months of cold weather and a lot of gray days where the only color’s we’ve seen are different variations of brown and gray. By now though, you’ve probably had some really nice, warm spring days and spotted some hanging baskets at the grocery store. If you’re anything like me, it’s like gravity is pulling you towards them. The colors! The smells! I need them back in my life!
Don’t Buy Hanging Baskets at the Grocery Store…
Make your own!
Think about how much money you can save. I know I’ve purchased hanging baskets in previous year spent $20+ on them. That’s asinine!
Last weekend, we (husband, kids & myself) decided to go check out a greenhouse about 15 minutes from home. It was incredible! I imagine I felt how children feel when the enter The Magic Kingdom at Disney World. It was (for me) the happiest place on earth. lol
I started walking the massive aisles of flower upon flower and though, What the heck? I can MAKE my own hanging baskets for HALF the price of one at the grocery store!
Better yet, my kids can make them.
There are valuable lessons to be learned while gardening.
- Cooperation – Learning to work with others as a team.
- Nature – Safely learn about plants in the outdoors.
- Responsibility/Cause and Effect – caring for plants and what happens if you don’t water them.
- Evolution – Children can see the plant grow larger and fuller on a daily basis
All you need are the baskets, potting soil and flowers.
And for moms..
Its quality time with your babies. 🙂 So the next time you think about getting your hanging baskets from the grocery store, think twice.
There is so much reward from doing it yourself. Saving money, lessons to be learned for kids and quality time spent together. And… they look better too!
Lots of Luv,
