Hi all! Gosh, I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this months traffic and income report with you. I launched this site on March 2nd, 2016 and prior to doing so, I got a lot of my inspiration from blogs that do the very same thing.
For months I had been tossing around the idea of starting a blog. I had done countless hours of research and the one thing that always caught my eye was other bloggers traffic and income reports. It showed me that it is possible to make this successful. Then I got to thinking, how cool would it be to document this blog’s traffic and income from the very beginning? That way, you aren’t just seeing a finished product or an end goal that’s been made. You’ll see a month by month progression of how it got there!
Guys, I’m not kidding, I knew absolutely nothing about blogs or websites before I started researching. I didn’t know things like self-hosting, WordPress and plug-ins even existed. I educated myself as much as possible before taking the first step, otherwise it would have been super intimidating (who am I kidding? It’s still a little intimidating. lol)! The point is, you do not have to be a computer genius to do this, not by a long shot. You just have to want to do it and take the first step. I did, and I could not be happier about it.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
The first step to starting a blog (if you want to make money from it) is to get your hosting. The reason for being hosted is you are fully in control of your website. There are limitations on some free, non hosted sites such as the use of ads. I recommend Bluehost or HostGator (what I use), the reason I chose HostGator over Bluehost is because I can pay month to month ($10.95/includes domain) versus yearly AND they have 24/7 support so if your site crashes in the middle of the night, no worries, someone will be there to help. If you choose to use them too, be sure to use Promo Code IMLUVINGTHISLIFE16 to get 25% off. Immediately following checkout confirmation, you’ll want to install WordPress. If you need help, it’s OK. Just call and they’ll do it for you. 🙂 If you need a thorough walk-thru you can also see my article on starting a blog.
Goals for March
My goals for the first month were as follows:
- Set up ad network(s). Check!
- Sign up for Affiliates. Check!
- Write 2 Blog Posts per week. Check!
- Set up Social Media Accounts. Check!
- Get at least 300 page views. Check!
- Understand RSS and Newsletter. Um.. not quite. I’m not sure I ever will either. lol I’ll add this to my April Goals.
You’ll notice I didn’t have any monetary expectations or goals for March. Keep in mind this is a brand new blog and we’ve just finished month one. Worrying about driving traffic to the site was frustrating enough. It was a week old and I was literally updating my stats every hour. Ha! I don’t recommend this action. It made me want to call it quits. My husband needed to constantly remind me that it’s been live for a week.. 2 weeks..3 weeks..etc. You know what though? I see the progress now! At the end of March I had 401 page views! I exceeded my goal and we’re already off to a great start in April. I can totally see that number being doubled (or tripled!?), we shall see!
March 2016 Traffic and Income Report
I am super pleased to report 107 Visitors and 401 Page Views for the month of March! I not only met my goal I exceeded it! The 2 pictures you see here are from my WordPress Stats and Google Analytics. The Analytics is slightly off because I didn’t sign up for it right at the beginning.
I was also surprised that I did earn a little bit of money too. And when I say a little bit, I mean like $5.08-little bit. LOL
Broken down, the $5 came from an affiliate and the $0.08 came from Adsense. I’m pleased with this considering I had no expectations for earning this early on.
What I did to Monetize.
The very next thing I did after setting up my website was sign up with Google Adsense. After signing up, I downloaded the Adsense Plug-in which shows you where to place your ads. Once you have them where you want them, just save and that’s it. It’ll take about 48 hours before they start showing up. You’ve just taken your fist step to monetizing your blog.
Along with ad networks, you can start signing up with affiliates that you know and trust. *Hint* Start with whomever you chose for your hosting. 😉 I also recommend Amazon Associates.
Before I leave you…
I just want you to know how truly motivating I hope this is for you if you’re considering starting a blog. It is so beyond easy that I wish I would have done it sooner. That is my only regret. If you are ready to take your first step don’t forget to checkout my article on how to start a blog, I will walk you through step by step.
