Have you ever wondered how to start a food blog and make money? Do you want to start your own and build a thriving business?
I’m here to tell you it’s as easy as 1 -2 -3!
Five months ago I was in your shoes. I was in a job that I despised, mostly because it kept me away from my kids and partly because I knew I was meant to do more.. to be more, to provide more.
I kept seeing income reports from Rosemarie over at The Busy Budgeter and was so inspired and knew that blogging is what I’m supposed to be doing. I dug in, determined to know everything I could about the art so that I could hit the ground running.
I have to say, though, that it is quite impossible to learn everything. Just as any banker doesn’t know everything about banking or every architect doesn’t know everything about building and that’s OK! It just means that the opportunity to learn and advance will always be there and our job as bloggers is a very secure one once established.
How do we become established?
We have to take the first step.
Before I show you, I have something to confess. I am not college educated, and I didn’t know a lot about computers before beginning this journey. I am simply a mom and a wife who wanted to do more and set an example for her children.
The door of possibility opened for me, and I’m proud that I walked through it.
How To Start A Food Blog and Make Money
Starting your blog is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3
- Choose A Hosting Provider and Domain Name
- Install WordPress
- Customize Your Site
Choosing a Hosting Provider and Domain Name
Bluehost is one of the best hosting providers out there and currently powering over 2 million websites.
Their hosting may not be free but it is darn close at $3.45/month, and when you sign up using my link, you’ll also get a FREE domain. If you are looking to make money blogging then purchasing hosting is the way to go. Advertisers and Brands tend to shy away from working with free blogger sites, so you end up limiting your income. That, my friends, is something we DON’T want to do.
Bluehost also offers 24/7 support, money back guarantee and over $150 in offers like advertising through, Google, Bing and other sites to grow your blog.
After clicking on the “Get Started Now” link, it’s time to choose your hosting.
Select “basic” for now; it’ll be more than enough until your food blog grows.
Time to choose your Domain! This was my favorite and not so favorite part of the process. I felt enormous pressure like I was naming my child. We are, though, our blogs become a part of us and build our brand.
Time to Install WordPress
Navigate to Mojo Marketplace via your CPanel and click on One Click Installs.
Click on WordPress and choose your domain name in the drop-down box.
Now that WordPress is installed let’s make it beautiful!
Customizing Your Site
On the left side of your Dashboard, there are a bunch of categories:
Posts: Where you’ll create your articles and create your Categories
Media: This is where we upload photos and docs.
Pages: Different from a blog post, you can create your Resources Page here.
Appearance: This is where you customize your site. You’re automatically given a few free themes to start with; I recommend upgrading whenever you’re able to at least a child theme to give your blog a more professional look.
I’m currently in a child theme, The Beautiful Pro Theme on Genesis Framework and I love it. It’s a straightforward and elegant design that makes my blog look neat and clutter free.
When you have installed your chosen theme, hover of appearance and click customize. In here you decide the layout of your site, the color combinations, header images.. it is yours to do with what you like. 🙂
I can’t wait to see what you do! After you are up and running, comment below so I can share your first post across all of my social media and add you to my Pinterest Group Boards!
